microscope heads

About a week ago we received this ST5000LM000 5TB with head issue. A difficult case, on the one hand, because of the ten heads it has, on the other hand, the complexity that follows in its software. It took us about six days to read the data since the client's disk was full. The recovery process was divided into three categories and are as follows. after the technical check was done and the problem with the heads was found, the surface was checked and it was found that there is no problem. Then, after we found a compatible donor, the heads were changed. The second part has to do with the "software" of the disk where it is the most difficult and the part with the specialized know-how that must be present. The third part has to do with reading the surface and saving the files, which is also the most time-consuming. I would like to dwell on something that I hear often as a recipient of people in need of recovery. I often hear that it is something easy, a friend of mine has changed the heads and got the data, another put it in the freezer for two days and then the hdd played, he knows computers and will fix it for me and other stuff. I want to focus on the information part. Nowadays knowledge is easy to find on the internet. The issue is whether you can evaluate it, manage it and finally whether you have the background to support it. Many times by seeing or reading something on the internet we try to do it and we often have bad consequences and data recovery is no longer possible. As the saying goes half knowledge is worse than ignorance!
